Everyone understands we are living in increasingly difficult and challenging times. Still we often struggle to appreciate what we can do individually and collectively to address our concerns and move into wiser action. In our busy lives we see the established systems appear to collapse or fail us. As we prepare to host the COP26, these challenges come into stark relief.
At the same time, ordinary people have a strength within them for connecting. Glasgow is known as one of the friendliest cities in the world. It’s in our DNA to greet, to meet, to be in conversation. We’ve been doing that for over 1500 years. There is a potential here that invites us, as citizens of the modern world, to take what we know and move it into dedicated practice. So that we can learn together. So that we can create a collective future. So that wiser action can flourish. We are holding these questions:

As the founder and patron saint of Glasgow, St Mungo’s story contains the record of four miracles:
Here is the bird that never flew Here is the tree that never grew Here is the bell that never rang Here is the fish that never swam The first is about bringing something back to life. The second is about rekindling a fire. The third about honouring the passing of the old and the fourth about restoring trust in fidelity. These qualities are depicted on the coat of arms for the city. This urban art shows us a saint who is one of the common people. Someone who loves, honours and calls to nature, restoring the balance. He embodies what might happen when people everywhere take up their call and step into partnership with life. In case you need more proof we love our place, listen to Alan Cumming sing “Mother Glasgow”. |
